INFINITUM and Matty in ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST
ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST: Afrofuturism Has Always Looked Forward
Greetings Dieselfunkateers! The Road to INFINITUM continues as we close in on our release date of January 19, 2021. INFINITUM: An Afrofuturist Tale, published by HarperCollins Amistad, is my long sought graphic novel labor of love. The proofs have been sent out, cover blurbs acquired, cover art finalized, and alas, the book files have been sent to the printer.
As the media ramps up we have been pleasantly surprised in Dieselfunk Studios by a very sweet article in Architectural Digest by wonderful author, Taylor Crumpton. Check it out HERE. Also, gotta admit, it’s cool being mentioned in the same light as Sun Ra, Octavia Butler, and Janelle Monáe. COOL INDEED

METABARON Juan Giménez Tribute Book
The Metabaron’s Juan Giménez TRIBUTE BOOK!
Greetings Dieselfunkateers! Many years ago Jean Giraud (aka Moebius), and Alejandro Jodorowsky collaborated on an aborted DUNE movie. The story behind it ultimately produced the 2013 entertaining cautionary tale documentary, ‘Jodorowsky’s Dune”. But apparently the partnership would continue in the graphic novel series L’INCAL. One of the ground breaking characters created in the series was the ultimate warrior, METABARON. After the main L’INCAL story was told, Jodorowsky took it upon himself to continue the story of the Metabaron legacy. The artist chosen for that series was the great Juan Giménez, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Giménez’s art and mechanical style had a huge influence on my work over the decade.
I became aware that a book would be produced honoring Giménez’s life and work. Amazing artist, Miquel Montlló (of Starship Warship Jolly Roger fame) was gracious enough to put me in contact with comic historian, Emilio Gonzalo Mallo who was organizing the project. I was amazingly given the green light to produce an image and of course, The Metabaron came to mind.
It was my honor to be a part of the project which will be announced at a future date.

This Talk is a very huge deal for Dieselfunk Studios. The primary characteristic being that we go through the process of how we create Visual Afrofuturism. There’s so much about SHOW in this business that one rarely gets the opportunity to go into the TELL part. A big thanks goes out to The Design Futures Initiative and my partner in crime Jim Fielder, maestro behind BlackPi Studios. Enjoy!
