STORY OF THE YEAR

I must thank my wonderful Wife, Mel, who has supported me on this journey, my Brothers, and of course as always, my Parents and Kids.  Additionally, I want to thank all of the amazing scholars, artists and trusted friends that helped to form what this story is about.  This would not have happened if you guys didn’t make it so.  As my Friend, Alex Simmons suggested; “…all good things come in threes!  I’d like to say THANK YOU to The East Coast Black Age of Comics organization for this prestigious award and a nod of acknowledgement to all of the nominees and winners.

BACK TO WORK!

BLACK ENTERPRISE Black Comics Roundtable

Greetings Dieselfunkateers! Imagine if a call was made to some of the most innovative creators around to discuss the state of BLACK COMICS.  ThIs was done today at Black Enterprise Magazine offices.  Under the careful guidance of Author, Samara Lynn, (with George Carmona running Shotgun) illustrious artisans such as Naseed Gifted (Khem Comic Fest, Dilettante J Bass (PB Soldier), Regine Sawyer (Lockett Down Productions), Joseph P Illidge (Lion Forge/Solarman), N Steven Harris (Solarman), Micheline Hess (Malice In Ovenland), Dewunmi Roye Okupe (Youneek Studios/ Malika Kickstarter), and myself, Tim Fielder (Matty’s Rocket /The Dieselfunk Show) laid waste to the myth that brothers and sisters don’t read and create comics.

WE DO!

THEN...

Derek Dingle (co-founder of MILESTONE MEDIA and Senior VP/Editor-In-Chief of Black Enterprise Magazine) beamed down to let us know that we are doing important work. (I promise you the light beam was not photoshopped:-)

Well Alright Then:-)

Look at the replay of the Black Enterprise Black Comics Roundtable Periscope. Most importantly, look out for the upcoming October issue of Black Enterprise Magazine IN PRINT and ONLINE.

Alexander Simmon’s Blackjack Wins!

Alexander Simmon’s Blackjack Wins!

ALEXANDER SIMMONS’ BLACKJACK WINS!

Greetings Dieselfunkateers! Today we knock out two birds with one stone.  Firstly, I want to congratulate my colleague and partner Alexander Simmons for our win last night for East Coast Black Age of Comics Conventions’  GLYPH AWARD  for ‘Best Male Character’. The GLYPH celebrates comics created by and about people of color.  A real honor for this WIN.  I want to congratulate all of the winners at last night’s event.  Producing Blackjack: There Came A Dark Hunter was a Labor of Love.  Secondly, I was so happy that I wanted to add another entry into my monthly Black Comics Character series of paintings.  Last time we did AJALA. This time I wanted to depict Arron Day ‘aka’ Blackjack,  in an impossibly physical scenario that came to me during a sketch at the Black Speculative Movement event earlier this month.

We are closing out on the installation of my career retrospective show Black Metropolis: 30 Years of Afrofuturism, Comics, Music, Animation, Decapitated Chickens, Heroes, Villains, and Negroes. which runs from May 23-30th.  Reception May 26th 5pm-7pm.  The Gallatin Galleries 1 Washington Place 10002

Blackjack Glyph Nomination!

Blackjack Glyph Nomination!

Blackjack GLYPH NOM!  Greetings Dieselfunkateers!  I’m proud to announce that Blackjack, aka Arron Day, has been nominated for a prestigious GLYPH AWARD in the category of Best Male Character.  Held every year just before the famous EAST COAST AGE OF BLACK COMICS,  we are honored to be held in amazing company.  Congrats to all of the Nominees.

I will state publicly for the record, Blackjack, created by Alex Simmons, is a character that has a powerful legacy.  I was grateful when Alex allowed me to add my visual take on Blackjack and it has made all of the difference.  As a result, I am very very proud of our work on the graphic novel, Blackjack: There Came A Dark Hunter.  Brothers already have enough challenges through their real lives.  We owe it to ourselves to create multi-dimensional characters that can be both thoughtful and heroic if need be.  A special thanks and CONGRATS to ALEXANDER SIMMONS  for creating such a lasting character. I’m already at work on the next Blackjack graphic novel my friend.

Believe that.
